World destroyed in conflagration every 10,800 years

23 Aug 09 - I've just been re-reading Immanuel Velikovsky's
1950 book Worlds in Collision.

In the book, Velikovsky writes of Heraclitus (-540 to -475),
who "taught that the world is destroyed in conflagration after
every period of 10,800 years."

In Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps I write of explosions in the sky approximately every 11,500 years,
along with carbon and radioactivity raining from the sky - all
in sync with precession of the equinoxes and geomagnetic
reversals. I therefore find Velikovsky's work quite fascinating.

On the same page of Worlds in Collision (p. 29 in my copy)
I find this passage:

"There is a period," wrote Censorimus (a Greek), "called
the 'supreme year' by Aristotle, at the end of which the sun,
moon, and all the planets return to their original position.
This 'supreme year' has a great winter, called by the Greeks
kataklysmos, which means deluge, and a great summer,
called by the Greek ekpyrosis, or combustion of the world.
The world, actually, seems to be inundated and burned
alternatively in each of these epochs."

Velikovsky thinks the recurring destruction is caused by a
comet. I think, of course, that it is caused by a magnetic
reversal, and that the next reversal lies just around the corner.

Natura non facit saltum
(Nature does not make leaps.) Charles Darwin's friend Thomas Huxley insisted that nature does take leaps. He was therefore labeled a "saltationist."

I J
ust could not put it
down
- I received the
books last night. I started
with Magnetic Reversals
and Evolutionary Leaps.

I just could not put it down.

I will need to read it many
times before I can even
begin to digest the depth
of knowledge it contains.

Magnetic reversals  -  far more important than we realize

Explains what's behind Velikovsky's work
I just want to add my voice to those of your many other admiring readers.

Magnetic Reversals
is utterly brilliant. You have pulled together so many different threads that the jigsaw of trying to understand the human situation feels like it's nearing completion. Reversals even explains what's behind Velikovsky's work.

P.S. I just ordered more of your books to give to friends and colleagues :-)                                                                         - Prof. Patrick Collins
